CHILLIWACK — A heat warning remains in place for parts of southern B.C. including Chilliwack, Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley.

Daytime highs in Chilliwack and Abbotsford are predicted to approach the mid 30 C range Monday (Aug. 14). Humidex values will be near 40 C. Temperatures are expected to cool off only to the upper teens overnight.

Cooling centres have opened in Chilliwack and in Abbotsford to assist residents who are struggling to stay cool in the dangerous heat.

Environment Canada warns residents that need to respect the seriousness of heat effects. It says the symptoms of heat illness include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of other health conditions.
