Cooling Centres available in Abbotsford as heatwave arrives in Fraser Valley
ABBOTSFORD — Temperatures are predicted to rise up to 33 C over the next several days as a high-pressure ridge moves over southern B.C.
The heat wave is expected to produce temperatures nearly 10 C degrees warmer than the average highs through the Fraser Valley, prompting a heat warning from Environment Canada and an advisory from Emergency Management BC. The ministry says the hot weather is currently expected to last until Saturday, but is not forecast to be as severe as during the 2021 heat dome.
The City of Chilliwack has announced the opening of cooling centres along with the City of Abbotsford. Residents of Abbotsford can cool off at:
- Abbotsford Recreation Centre at 2499 McMillan Rd (Monday – Sunday 5:30 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.)
- Matsqui Recreation Centre at 3106 Clearbrook Rd (Monday – Saturday 6:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.)
- Abbotsford Community Library at 33355 Bevan Ave (Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. | Friday- Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.| Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
