MAPLE RIDGE — Ridge Meadows RCMP are urging residents to stay bear – and generally wildlife – aware after two recent encounters left a person and a pet injured.

Yesterday, June 12, police responded to an incident involving a resident and a bear, which resulted in the individual sustaining minor injuries. On June 10, an incident between an aggressive coyote and a resident led to the person’s dog getting bitten.

To protect wildlife and the community, police are reminding the public of the following safety tips:

  • Give wildlife space
  • Don’t approach and don’t feed wildlife
  • Keep dogs on leash and under control
  • Keep all garbage secure
  • Call 911 if wildlife poses a threat, or call the BC Conservation Officer Service (1-877-952-7277)
