Driver airlifted in critical condition after crash with deer on Highway 1 in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — A person is now in hospital following a deer collision on a section of Highway 1 in Chilliwack Saturday morning (June 20). 

Four ambulances, along with fire crews and police, were paged out to the highway’s eastbound lanes near Yale Road shortly before 1:30 a.m. for the incident involving a blue Mazda Miata and a deer.

Paramedics treated one patient on the scene before they were airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

Nearby drivers say a mangled deer was in the middle of the highway, with the convertible appearing to have flipped over the barrier.
