MISSION — Fraser Health has issued what may be one of its last temporary service-interruption announcements for the Mission Memorial Hospital emergency room – for a few weeks, at least.

The closures are as follows:

  • June 20 at 5:00 p.m. to June 21 at 8:00 a.m.
  • June 23 at 5:00 p.m. to June 24 at 8:00 a.m.
  • June 24 at 5:00 p.m. to June 25 at 8:00 a.m.
  • June 27 at 5:00 p.m. to June 28 at 8:00 a.m.
  • June 28 at 5:00 p.m. to June 29 at 8:00 a.m.
  • June 30 at 5:00 p.m. to July 1 at 8:00 a.m.
  • July 3 at 5:00 p.m. to July 4 at 8:00 a.m.
  • July 4 at 5:00 p.m. to July 5 at 8:00 a.m.

All other services at the Mission Hospital will be open.

As always, doctors will try to see all patients already in the emergency department before their shifts end at 11 p.m., at which point emergency-trained nurses will stay to support walk-in patients needing basic care and redirect others to neighbouring hospitals.

Anyone with a life-threatening emergency is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately to be taken to the nearest and most appropriate facility.

After this, though, the health agency says there will be no more vacant physician shifts at the hospital’s E.R. for the rest of July. Construction is also underway to expand and upgrade the E.R. in Mission.

“These upgrades give staff and medical staff better facilities and modern equipment, helping Fraser Health attract and retain staff and medical staff by creating a better-equipped, more supportive place to provide care,” Fraser Health told Fraser Valley Today.

“By bringing the emergency department up to today’s standards, Mission becomes a more appealing place for emergency physicians to work at every stage of their careers.”
