CHILLIWACK — Multiple Chilliwack Fire Department engines were paged Wednesday night shortly after 9:30 p.m. for the report of a barn fire in the 8900 block of Annis Road in Chilliwack.

According to a voice recording provided by Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, Engines 1, 2, and 4, Tower 1 and the duty chief were alerted at 9:32 p.m. about a possible barn fire.

As per scanner traffic, and a text message to Fraser Valley Today from nearby farmer and Chilliwack Councillor Chris Kloot, all Jersey cows were outside of the barn and were unharmed. An older skid steer caught fire, Kloot said.

Responding firefighters advised emergency dispatch of smoke coming from the top of the barn, but later radioed dispatch that the fire was mostly out on their arrival.

There were no injuries associated with the barn fire, Kloot said, adding that it could have been much worse if the fire occurred overnight because it might have gone unnoticed.

The barn was aired out with ventilation.
