ABBOTSFORD — A 44-year-old man, described by police as a prolific offender, is facing numerous charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and ramming a police car early Monday (Oct. 2) morning in Abbotsford.

In a news release, Abbotsford Police say Joseph Edward Zaworski was first spotted in a white pickup with a large fuel tank that was spilling fuel onto the road in the area of Huntingdon Road and Ross Road around 2:30 a.m.

The vehicle was spotted eastbound on Highway 1 past the Sumas Way exit. Officers watched as the truck crossed the grassy median dividing the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Then upon exiting from the offramp to Sumas Way, the vehicle rammed into a police car to avoid being stopped. However, a tire deflation device managed to bring the vehicle to a halt. That’s when Zaworski was taken into custody.

Following the arrest, the vehicle was confirmed by police to be stolen. Luckily no police officers were injured during the incident.

Zaworski is facing a series of charges including two counts of Assaulting a Peace Officer with a weapon, a single count of dangerous driving, a single count of driving while prohibited and two counts of breaching a release order.
