Fire breaks out at Mission shelter Saturday afternoon

MISSION — Mission residents are asked to avoid the area of Lougheed Highway and Park Street after a fire broke out at a shelter Saturday afternoon (June 27).

Nearby witnesses started reporting the incident at what appeared to be the Haven in the Hollow homeless shelter, near Brownie’s Chicken, at around 2:45 p.m.

Mission Fire Rescue Service crews were on scene shortly after.

Images from the scene show a large plume of smoke rising from the shelter’s roof structure.
