ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford police are looking to stop speeding drivers in their tracks by deploying new radar units across the city.

“Project Homer” was a two-day operation using Black Cat technology to monitor and record passing vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, lane use and the time of day when infractions occur.

AbbyPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit first deployed the radar in late May, after a resident reported seeing dangerous speeding along Simpson Road near Millwright Drive daily.

Between May 31 and June 6, the collected data confirmed the complaint, with more than 20 vehicles recorded speeding at 111 km/h or more.

One vehicle was also clocked at three times the posted 50 km/h zone.

The project issued numerous violation tickets and impounded nine vehicles for speeding, with an average excess speed of 113 km/h.

“The Black Cat radar unit is just one of several tools TEU uses to monitor and manage

traffic safety in the community,” said Sgt. Paul Walker with the Abbotsford police. “The absence of visible enforcement does not mean concerns are not being addressed — AbbyPD remains actively engaged in road safety across the city.

Officers have removed 223 excessive speeders from local roadways so far in 2026, with the latest being a 26-year-old Corvette driver caught going double the speed limit on Highway 11 this week.
