MISSION — Crews are set to start deep cleaning after a hazardous materials spill at the intersection of Ainsworth Street and Smith Avenue last Wednesday (Aug. 5).

Starting early on August 17, additional cleanup and remediation work is expected in the area following the City of Mission’s emergency response on the evening of August 5.

“The City and its contractor have developed a site-specific safety plan for the remediation work,” said the City. “Measures include air monitoring, worker and equipment decontamination procedures, and controls to protect the surrounding area.”

Samples sent for expedited lab testing indicated that the spilled products were primarily solvents and hydrocarbons, including methanol, styrene and LEPH/HEPH. No heavy acids were found.
