Chilliwack city council to vote on 5-storey apartment complex on Wellington Ave.
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack city council is scheduled to vote Tuesday (Sept. 26) on a proposed development that would construct a five-storey apartment building in the 45600 block of Wellington Avenue.
Councillors are slated to consider a development variance permit and a development permit at its meeting today, as part of a public information meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m., for property located at 45624 and 45632 Wellington Avenue, about three blocks west of the downtown core.
The application, only identified as 1365242 BC Ltd. in a city of Chilliwack staff report, hopes to construct a five-storey building, including an above-ground parkade and four residential floors above, containing 48 units comprised of 32 small units and 16 standard apartment units. There will be 58 off-street parking spaces including 10 visitor parking spaces, along with 60 bicycle parking spaces, of which all 60 are required, and 11 trees.
The applicant is seeking to vary certain building standards within the zoning bylaw and R5 (low rise apartment) zone to facilitate the construction of of a new apartment building on the subject properties. Some of those development variance requests include waiving the requirement to provide an off-street loading space, and waiving the requirement for a common amenity area to be located more than five metres from a window serving a dwelling unit.
