CHILLIWACK — After a gutsy road win in Washington state over a highly-ranked foe in Prairie, the GW Grizzlies delighted the homecoming fans at Exhibition Stadium Friday night with a convincing win on its home turf.

The Grizzlies are off to a 3-0 start thanks to two touchdown passes from quarterback Aiden Hewitt to Carter Dallas, and the Grizzlies defence stepped up in a big way with two interceptions and a forced fumble, as GW Graham conquered the visiting South Delta Sun Devils in a 28-7 win.

The Grizzlies kicked the ball off, giving the Sun Devils possession, and linebacker Owen Lal forced a fumble and recovered it to put the Grizzlies offence to work. QB Aiden Hewitt marched his team down the field, and punched in a 1-yard run to capitalize on the drive. Up 7-0, the the Grizzlies had a great start.

The Sun Devils answered back with a 10 minute drive, capped off with a TD pass and run, making it a 7-7 game. It remained that score until half time, as both teams settled in.

The second half adjustments from the offensive coordinator Matt Paisley proved to be too much for the Sun Devils defence, as running back Maleky Colgiu controlled the run game and QB Aiden Hewitt turned the tide with 2 TD passes to wide receiver Carter Dallas.

GW Graham fans packed the stands at Exhibition Stadium and were treated to a second half in which the Grizzlies scored 21 unanswered points.

The Grizzlies Defence stopped the Sun Devils from capitalizing with a great bend but don’t break defence. Defensive end Riley Ashley and linebacker Josh Seo led the defence with 6 tackles each. Defensive backs Christian Beck and Carter Dallas both helped their squad with an interception each.

Head coach Ryk Piche said, “In a week 2 game, the chance to play all of our players at each of the three facets of the game was a huge success for our boys.”

The Grizzlies head back down to the United States to play the Fife Trojans in Tacoma on Friday, September 22.
