Heavy police presence Thursday night east of downtown Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Witnesses say multiple RCMP vehicles have flooded an area east of downtown Chilliwack Thursday night shortly after 10 p.m.

Details are scarce, but RCMP have blocked off Williams Street at First Avenue, according to Julie Hiscock, who was out driving in the area and took a photo of the roadblock.

Another Chilliwack resident says Margaret Avenue is blocked at Hazel Street, while another witness says police have their flashlights turned on and are walking somewhere east of downtown Chilliwack. The intersection of Charles and Margaret is also reportedly blocked per social media users.

Social media users reported seeing several police in the area of McNaught Road, Woodbine at Maple, and other roads like Coote Street. A police dog is being utilized by the RCMP, according to several social media users.
