AGASSIZ – Police say two vehicles that had stopped to allow a loose dog to cross an Agassiz road last week sustained significant damage after a third vehicle approached but didn’t stop, causing a multi-vehicle collision.

Agassiz RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener says RCMP members were dispatched for a three-vehicle collision on Lougheed Highway near Bodnar Road. She says the crash occurred after vehicles in both directions had stopped to allow a loose dog to cross the road.

Cpl. Kiener says a third vehicle approached and was unable to stop in time, rear-ending another vehicle and pushing it into oncoming traffic.

As a result, all three vehicles sustained significant damage.

No injuries were reported.

The dog safely crossed the road without incident, Cpl. Kiener said.

A violation ticket was issued to the driver who caused the rear-end collision.

The date and time of the crash were not disclosed by police, only that it happened between Monday, June 1 and Sunday, June 7.

After publication of this story, a reader contacted Fraser Valley Today and said the accident happened at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, and was clear by approximately 2 p.m.

The incident was one of 67 calls for service fielded by the Agassiz RCMP detachment last week.

In another traffic collision this past week, a crash was reported at the intersection of Evergreen Road and Cheam Avenue. Officers attended and observed a sedan and a large van, both with visible damage.

Corporal Kiener says no injuries were reported. Impairment was initially reported as a possible factor in the crash. However, upon police attendance, impairment was ruled out. The driver of the sedan was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act, and the vehicle was towed due to significant damage.
