CHILLIWACK – Police in Chilliwack now say the body of the missing 13-year-old girl who went missing while paddleboarding over the weekend at Cultus Lake has been located.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener told Fraser Valley Today in an email that personnel from the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the body of the missing 13-year-old youth shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, August 10.

Corporal Kiener says the investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Cpl. Kiener. “This is a heartbreaking outcome, and we are deeply sorry for their loss.”

Police are expressing their gratitude to all partner agencies and volunteers who dedicated their time, resources, and expertise throughout this response to locate the missing youth.

“Chilliwack RCMP also reminds the public to take precautions around the water. Always wear a properly fitted life jacket, ensure you have the necessary swimming skills before entering the water, and use the buddy system and never swim alone,” police said in a statement.
