Pet food bank volunteers step up

Chilliwack pet food bank society assists wildfire evacuees from across B.C.

CHILLIWACK – It’s safe to say the dedicated volunteers behind Zoey’s Pawsome Pets Society have been extremely busy the past few weeks helping Chilliwack residents in need as well as recent evacuees from three wildfires in British Columbia.

Julie Chadwick with the Chilliwack pet food bank society says they’ve partnered with CDART – Canadian Animal Disaster Response Team, Shxwhà:y Village, and Chilliwack Community Services Senior Prescribing Program to help provide food, dishes, blankets and other much needed pet items to pet owners who have been evacuated from the Brunswick Creek Complex wildfires near Boston Bar, and the more recent fire in Summerland

Speaking on behalf of Zoey’s Pawsome Pet Society, Chadwick says the non-profit wouldn’t have been able to take on these extra pets without the help of amazing businesses who have pitched in with extra pet food and supplies.

“Pan Pacific Pets, Petcurean, and Bosley’s by Pet Valu’s Vedder location have donated on top of our amazing donors to help provide extra food and supplies to these pets and their families,” Chadwick said.

Chadwick added, “It truly takes a village to help all of these pets and their families and we are beyond thankful to everyone who has helped us help them.”

The Zoey’s team has been spending in-person hours at the CDART shelter at Seabird Island to help take care of the animals.

Members of the public can help support wildfire evacuees by donating from the approved lists to Shxwhà:y Village, or Seabird Island for human products. Pet items can be picked up by Zoey’s volunteers or dropped off with us and they can continue geting supplies it to those who need it most.
