District of Kent ditches free EV charging, will now impose a $4/hour fee
AGASSIZ — The days of charging your electric vehicle for free in downtown Agassiz appear to be coming to an end.
The District of Kent wrote on Twitter Monday night (Dec. 19) that effective January 3, 2023, it will begin levying a fee of $4 an hour to use the public EV charging stations at the Aberdeen Building and the Agassiz-Harrison Museum & Visitor Centre, both located on Pioneer Avenue, in Agassiz.
The District of Kent currently operates two Level 2 charging stations for public use. On its website, the district says that each station has two charging ports and can charge two vehicles at the same time. Both locations are complimentary and have a two-hour time limit.
The municipality had installed a new EV charging station at the Aberdeen Building parking lot thanks to funding through the Provincial Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program grant.
