CHILLIWACK – The BC SPCA chapter in Chilliwack says it is appealing to the community for information after it appears that five puppies were left inside a broken crate at its property in Greendale overnight.

The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) wrote in a social media post that the five pups appear to have been placed outside its gate, inside a crate that didn’t close, and it’s looking to locate the owner as soon as possible.

It says it’s looking to better understand what the responsible party or parties intended by leaving the puppies at its gate and hopes to complete the proper paperwork to officially surrender the pups into its care.

“Our biggest concern is that these puppies may have been taken from someone who is actively looking for them. If you recognize this situation or have any information that could help us identify where they came from, please reach out,” the BC SPCA said. “If the intention was to surrender them, we absolutely want to help — we just need confirmation and appropriate documentation so we can ensure they receive the care they need.”

The society says it wants to remind people there are safe and humane options for relinquishing care of a pet. A website containing the right way to do is found here: https://spca.bc.ca/i-need-help-with/cant-keep-an-animal/.

“We are especially able to help with vulnerable animals like puppies and kittens, who would likely not survive on their own,” the BC SPCA said. “Thank you for your help, and please share this post to help us reconnect these puppies with their story.”

The Chilliwack SPCA can be reached via email at chilliwack@spca.bc.ca, or 604-823-6612.

Please note, the puppies are not available for adoption at this time.
