MISSION – Mounties say a male suspect in an attempted robbery of a jewelry store in Maple Ridge earlier this month was arrested last week after a search warrant was executed at a home in Mission.

Mission RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr told Fraser Valley Today last week that Emergency Response Team members attended a residence on Cherry Avenue west of Cedar Street last Thursday, April 16 in relation to an ongoing investigation by Ridge Meadows RCMP members.

Maple Ridge RCMP confirmed that an arrest has been made in an attempted robbery incident that occurred on Tuesday, April 7 at about 5 p.m., inside a jewelry store in the 22700 block of Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. Frontline officers immediately attended the area and learned that two masked male suspects had entered the shopping centre before attempting to rob the business. The males were interrupted by security before deploying bear spray and leaving the area. Police contained the scene before reviewing video surveillance and speaking with witnesses to identify possible suspects.

Emergency health services also attended the scene and provided aid to bystanders affected by the bear spray. No further injuries were reported.

One of the two alleged male suspects was taken into custody last Thursday, April 16 after a search warrant was executed in Mission by Maple Ridge RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit (SEU) and the Integrated Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT).

Police say investigators are working to identify the second alleged suspect and pursuing a number of additional investigative steps as the investigation continues.

Anyone with more information, who hasn’t already spoken to police about this incident, is asked to contact Maple Ridge RCMP at 604-463-6251 and quote file 2026-6573.
