CHILLIWACK — Former Chilliwack city councillor and school board trustee Diane Janzen has resigned from her position as executive director of Chilliwack Community Services, the non-profit organization announced late Friday afternoon (Dec. 16).

“It has been an honour and a privilege to work with Diane Janzen, Executive Director of Chilliwack Community Services for the last 6 ½ year,” board president and Chilliwack attorney Luke Zacharias said Friday. “Diane has done an incredible job in her role as Executive Director. I am writing to let you know that Diane has indicated to the CCS Board of Directors that she is taking on the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) with Skwah First Nation effective January 27, 2023 and has resigned as Executive Director of Chilliwack Community Services. We wish Diane Janzen at the best in her new position.”

Janzen led the organization as it grew to a dedicated staff of 107 employees and 500 volunteers, Zacharias said, pinpointing the organization’s incredible reach in which it administers 39 programs that serve more than 12,500 people every year in Chilliwack.

“We have been strongly supported by the community, donors, sponsors and funders and as a result of their support, we are in a solid financial position,” Zacharias wrote on social media. “CCS is also in the process of constructing the Paramount Project, the largest project in CCS history, dedicated to affordable housing for seniors and young adults. CCS owes our success to its staff, and we are committed to supporting and investing in their growth and development.”

Zacharias said the process of hiring a replacement will be a significant undertaking.

“The hiring of the Executive Director is one of the most important jobs of the Board of Directors and we are committed to a thorough and public process for the hiring of the next Executive Director,” Zacharias wrote. “We will be reaching out widely to seek applications and carry out an extensive process of selection to get the right person for the job.”

In the interim and effective January 30, 2023, Darlene Straarup, Director of Immigrant Services and Training and Development, will serve as the acting executive director until the next executive director is chosen and starts in the position.
