Downtown ambassador Harold Zinke to receive Streams Foundation’s Community Hero Award

CHILLIWACK — They call him the unofficial mayor of Chilliwack due to his ubiquitous smile, joyful demeanour, and a dedicated work ethic that ensures downtown Chilliwack looks its very best.

Streams Foundation Canada, a volunteer-based non-profit organization working in Chilliwack, announced Friday morning (Dec. 16) that it will present its Community Hero Award to popular Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association employee Harold Zinke, at a special dinner this weekend.

“We are happy to announce this year’s ‘Streams Community Hero Award’, which goes to the ever happy Harold Zinke,” Streams Canada Foundation wrote on Facebook.

The Streams Free Multicultural Holiday Celebration and Dinner will be held this this Sunday, December 18 at 4 p.m. at Evergreen Hall, 9291 Corbould Street.

Streams Foundation Canada touted Zinke, who has been the face of downtown Chilliwack for countless years by cleaning up downtown Chilliwack streets on behalf of the BIA, in announcing its dinner to the community.

“Most of Chilliwack know him as the unofficial Mayor of Chilliwack,” Streams Foundation wrote. “A humble & happy BIA Downtown Chilliwack worker, ever present on Downtown streets in his neon safety vest, making our streets beautiful and spreading happiness with his smiles.”

The free Christmas celebration dinner will be held in partnership with the City of Chilliwack, the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board, and local businesses and organizations. It will feature Indigenous drumming, live cultural performances, dinner and dessert by Pabla Curry House with halal meat and vegetarian options, cold beverages, coffee and tea and hot chocolate by Rita’s Kitchen, Santa Claus, Christmas tree decorations, card-making, and a raffle draw for gift baskets.

Attendees are encouraged to come in your traditional Christmas holiday attire, though there is no formal dress code.
