2,700 B.C. Hydro customers in Chilliwack without power Saturday

Update: B.C. Hydro has since restored power to the affected Chilliwack customers. There are no power outages in Chilliwack as of 5:05 p.m. Saturday.

CHILLIWACK — An estimated 2,734 B.C. Hydro customers on the north side of Chilliwack, including parts of downtown and Fairfield Island, are without power Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10).

B.C. Hydro wrote Twitter Saturday afternoon at 2:25 p.m. that utility crews are on their way to an outage in Chilliwack affecting 2,730 customers.

The power went off at 1:34 p.m.

The utility company says it expects to arrive on site by 2:55 p.m. and will share more updates on the B.C. Hydro power outage website.

One downtown Chilliwack non-profit wrote that the power outage affected its Christmas party.

“Not even two hours into the Santa/Holiday party and we have a power outage,” wrote Hannah Vannery of the Pacific Family Autism Network, which has an office at 46151 Yale Road across from District 1881. “Kids are doing great playing in the dark for now.”

B.C. Hydro wrote that the power outage was due to wires down. It described the area affected as west of Hope River Road and north of Fourth Avenue.
