B.C. police watchdog seeks witnesses to fatal Chilliwack truck collision

CHILLIWACK — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is now investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident on Boxing Day evening in Chilliwack.

Shortly after 10:15 p.m., a white Ford pickup truck struck a power pole near the intersection of Yale and Banford roads, where emergency responders attended and found the lone occupant dead on the scene.

“The RCMP reported no police involvement with the pickup truck prior to the collision and the IIO was not notified at the time,” said the IIO.

However, on December 29, new information received from the public has prompted the agency to begin investigating the incident and the circumstances leading up to it.
