CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack teacher is now the latest candidate to throw her hat in the ring for the upcoming SD33 board trustee election.

Dr. Leah Kelley is an educator with 30 years of teaching experience in the Chilliwack School District, working with students from kindergarten through the university level.

Her qualifications include a doctorate in Education from Simon Fraser University, disability and inclusive education advocacy – and parenthood.

“Chilliwack is my community: I have been a teacher here, my children attended public school here, and I am connected to schools, and involved in my community,” said Kelley.

“I’ve worked closely with families and educators, and I have capacity to listen and collaborate with people. It can be complex, and the system may be imperfect, but it’s by stepping up and working together that we can continue to take what Chilliwack is already doing well and make it even better.”

As a school trustee, Kelley aims to support public education and the responsible use of resources by drawing on her experiences and evidence-based work.

“I understand that I have lots to learn in the role of Trustee, but I bring a lot to the table.”

She joins local resident and advocate Katie Bartel in the bid for a trustee seat.

Elections are set to be held this fall, on October 17.
