Police arrest ‘grossly intoxicated’ driver after he strikes concrete block, rolls over: Mission RCMP

MISSION – Police in Mission say a motorist who struck a concrete block and rolled over was arrested for allegedly being “grossly intoxicated” while driving last weekend.

In a statement, Mission RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr says police were called to Catchpole Avenue (near Hatzic Middle School) at about 1 a.m. early Sunday, Sept. 20, after a vehicle struck a concrete block at the end of the road and flipped onto its side.

Cpl. Mohr says an RCMP officer helped extricate the driver through the trunk of his vehicle, and immediately observed signs of impairment on the male. The driver was arrested for driving while impaired, but refused to comply with a breath demand. 

The driver opted not to go to the hospital with paramedics, Cpl. Mohr said. Since the man was “grossly intoxicated,” he was lodged in a cell to help keep him safe until he sobered up.
