54-year-old man hospitalized after his vehicle struck a moving train in Maple Ridge: RCMP

MAPLE RIDGE – Police in Maple Ridge say a 54-year-old man has been transported to hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle he was driving veered off course and struck a moving train Monday night in Maple Ridge.

In a statement, Maple Ridge RCMP say its officers received a report at 10 p.m. Monday night (Sept. 14) that a vehicle collided with a train near Haney Bypass and 225 Street in Maple Ridge. Responding officers who attended the scene learned that a vehicle was travelling eastbound on Haney Bypass when it veered off course, drove through a gate and onto the railway before colliding with a moving train. 

The 54-year-old male driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was safely removed from the vehicle by Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue Services and transported to hospital via BC Emergency Health Services personnel. The driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.
