ABBOTSFORD – Details are limited at this point, but federal correctional officials have implemented a lockdown at a prison in Abbotsford.

According to a brief statement from Correctional Service Canada, a lockdown was put in place on Monday, April 20 at Fraser Valley Institution to allow staff members there to conduct what it calls an “exceptional search.”

Fraser Valley Institution is a multi-level, multi-security prison located at 33344 King Road south of Highway 1 in Abbotsford.

CSC says the search was implemented to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff, and inmates.
