BC Hydro launches first ultra-fast charging hub in Hope, just off Highway 1
HOPE — BC Hydro says it has launched its first exclusively high-powered EV charging hub in its network with eight charging ports in Hope that will foster greater EV adoption for light and medium-duty EVs using Highways 1, 3 and 5.
According to a statement, BC Hydro says the site is located at the Esso gas station and Silver Creek Travel Centre at 19700 Klassen Road, just off Highway 1 and the Flood Hope Road (exit 168). The site features four 350-kilowatt chargers – the highest powered chargers on BC Hydro’s system, which can add up to 100-kilometres of driving to an average EV in about five minutes.
Beyond the much faster speed, the chargers also offer power sharing so that two vehicles can charge together on the same unit and receive up to 175-kilowatts each. Up to eight EVs can use these four chargers at once. The site is designed with wider parking to accommodate medium-duty EVs including delivery vans or semi-truck tractors.
“This new electric vehicle charge hub in Hope continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. “With more than 700 BC Hydro charging ports now available in communities throughout B.C., we are building a public charging network that’s ready to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and will support economic growth in our province.”
