ABBOTSFORD — A local cat rescue is keeping winter warm with new community initiatives due to increasing needs.

The Abby Cat Daddy has launched the Fur Father Fund, a program designed to help low-income families by subsidizing spay/neuter surgeries, with help from local realtor Jeffrey Wolfgang Klassen.

“Jeffrey has stepped forward with a promise to support families who want to do the right thing for their animal companions but simply cannot afford the full $175 cost of a community spay/neuter,” said the rescue in a blog post.

“His contributions will directly subsidize procedures for low-income households, helping prevent accidental litters, reduce feline overpopulation, and keep more cats happy, healthy, and safe.”

The Feline Advocate Society currently has nearly 100 cats under its care, with dozens more on the waitlist.

To support the need for medical care, resources and its trap-neuter-return program across the Fraser Valley, the rescue is also launching a Winter Silent Auction.

“Our silent auction features generous donations from local businesses, artisans, and community members, including artwork, gift baskets, pet-care essentials, experiences, and more. Every bid directly supports human-animals and non-human animals in our region by improving access to care and reducing preventable suffering.”

Applications for the new subsidy are open with limited funding at the time of writing.
