CHILLIWACK — Winning a half-million dollars can leave a lot of people in disbelief.

Chilliwack couple Joyce and Brandon Cheshire couldn’t exactly believe the results of the Lotto Max draw from October 10 after learning they won a $500,000 jackpot.

They just happened to purchase the lucky ticket from the Save-On-Foods on Vedder Road in Chilliwack, according to the BC Lottery Corporation.

“We were at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Vedder Road,” Joyce remarked. “I said, ‘this isn’t real!’”

“We couldn’t get our heads around it!” recalled Brandon.

After checking their ticket on an in-store self-scanner, the Chilliwack couple went home to check the winning numbers online.

The Cheshires say they were most excited to share the news with their daughter. “She didn’t believe it!” Brandon said.

The two lucky winners plan to invest their winnings and help their daughter. They say they’re feeling a little happier these days.

“Absolutely happy. It’s a wonderful experience,” said Joyce.

The winning ticket was purchased at Save-On-Foods on Vedder Road in Chilliwack.

So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $43 million in winnings from the Extra and more than $233 million from Lotto Max. For reference, the Extra is a $1 add-on game available to purchase with Daily Grand, Lotto 6/49, BC/49 and Lotto Max at any BCLC lottery retailer or online.
