33-year-old charged with aggravated assault following domestic violence incident: AbbyPD

ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department says a 33-year-old faces two counts of aggravated assault as the result of an investigation by its Major Crime Unit.

According to a news release from Constable Art Stele, media relations spokesperson for the AbbyPD, 33-year-old Tu Cuong Tran is facing two counts of aggravated assault stemming from a reported stabbing that happened just over a week ago.

On Saturday, September 16, at 6:49 p.m., AbbyPD responded to a reported a stabbing at a residential complex in the 1900 block of McCallum Road. According to Constable Stele, the event resulted in two victims being rushed to hospital with life-threatening stab wounds and the suspect being arrested and transported to hospital with serious, self-inflicted injuries.

The investigation also uncovered the event arose as the result from intimate partner violence, calling attention to the often serious level of violence unfortunately present in some relationships.

Stele said in a statement. “We will again shine purple lights throughout October at our headquarters to support Purple Light Nights. With October being National Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month, please support the survivors of intimate partner violence and bring hope to those tragically still facing abuse in relationships.”
