Winds expected to whip up wildfires in B.C. Interior

Sep 16, 2023 | 5:56 AM

VANCOUVER — The B-C Wildfire Service says it’s bracing for a windy weekend that could see wildfires grow significantly, especially in the province’s northern regions.

The wildfire service says most of the fire growth is likely to happen in the Prince George and Cariboo fire centres, while rain in the northwest could potentially dampen fire activity in that part of B-C.

The service says the winds are forecast to die down by Sunday, and early next week is expected to see a “significant drop in temperatures.”

Elsewhere in the province, fire activity has lessened with several evacuation orders downgraded to alerts, with 77 properties in the Central Okanagan still evacuated, while four-thousand-882 remain on alert. (The Canadian Press)
