Vehicle incidents slow westbound Hwy. 1 west of Chilliwack Thursday morning

CHILLIWACK — Westbound Highway 1 west of Chilliwack has been impacted by two vehicle incidents before noon Thursday morning.

At least two engines from the Chilliwack Fire Department were dispatched to a vehicle incident Thursday at about 10:28 a.m. after a vehicle went off the road and into a ditch near the CN railroad.

According to scanner traffic, a single vehicle went off the road and into the ditch. The other vehicle involved in the apparent crash fled the scene, according to scanner traffic.

A patient was reportedly in care of BC Ambulance Service. RCMP were on scene as well.

Chilliwack Fire had asked CN to be notified as first responders would be working within about 15 feet of their jurisdiction/right of way. Trains were being stopped through the area.

Chilliwack Fire cleared the scene at approximately 11:31 a.m.

Drive BC reported at 11:14 a.m. Thursday that a vehicle incident was impacting westbound traffic before Whatcom Road. Crews were en route as of 11:14 a.m.

There are unconfirmed reports that there are broken down semi trucks in both directions close to Whatcom Road.

At 12:27 p.m., Drive BC said the incident near Whatcom Road had been cleared.
