Saturday’s accident on Highway 1 hospitalizes 2, including 1 in critical condition

CHILLIWACK — Saturday’s accident on Highway 1 near No. 3 Road that blocked the two eastbound lanes sent two patients to the hospital, including one in critical condition.

According to a Sunday night statement released by Joshua Grant, communications specialist for the Provincial Health Services Authority, BC Emergency Health Services responded to a motor vehicle incident between Number 3 Road and Atkinson Road in Abbotsford shortly after 2 p.m. The 9-1-1 call came in at 2:03 p.m.

Two patients were transported to hospital, one in critical condition and one in stable condition.

Five ambulances responded, including one air ambulance.

Drive BC wrote on X/Twitter that one lane was still blocked as of 7:02 p.m. Saturday night.

The highway’s two eastbound lanes fully reopened at 7:35 p.m., approximately 5 1/2 hours after the 911 call came in at 2:03 p.m., according to Drive BC.

A Chilliwack resident shared pictures of the incident, including the air ambulance that landed on Highway 1 and of paramedics waiting near a motorcycle that crashed.

Corporal Dave Noon, a forensic collision reconstructionist with the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (LMD-ICARS), wrote on X/Twitter at 4:21 p.m. Saturday that the serious incident involved a motorcycle. It is believed that ICARS attended the scene.
