CHILLIWACK — Volunteers from across Chilliwack are invited to do their part to keep Chilliwack-area waterways and other areas clean and clear of garbage and other debris.

Chilliwack-area volunteers are welcome to participate in BC Rivers Day River Cleanup on Sunday, September 24 at Thompson Regional Park, 48600 Chilliwack Lake Road in Chilliwack, in partnership with the Chilliwack/Vedder River Cleanup Society.

Refreshments will be offered offered by McDonalds on Luckakuck in Chilliwack. Organizers are extending a huge thanks to Stephen and Ben for the coffee and muffins/pastries. As a friendly reminder, given that it’s a river cleanup day, please remember to bring a reusable mug as there won’t be any single-use cups.

Attendees can pre-register to enter to win a prize by emailing us at info@cleanrivers.ca with the following information. Don’t worry if you don’t hear back from Clean Rivers as its administrative staff member is away on vacation from August 26 to September 13. To pre-register, please provide your full name, cell phone and an emergency contact (name and phone number). Attendees will still need to sign a waiver at the registration table at the Fish and Game Club.

Registration will also be on-site between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. All attendees will receive a raffle ticket for more prizes. Those who pre-register via email double their chances to win.

Organizers ask that all garbage be returned to the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club (48685 Chilliwack Lake Road) by 1 p.m. In the event volunteers come across drywall, please do not remove it. Instead, please record the GPS location and organizers will notify authorities for its safe removal.

This event will happen rain or shine, so come prepared. Event organizers will supply gloves, pick-up sticks and bags.
