Wildfire activity leads to different start for school year in North Okanagan-Shuswap
SALMON ARM — School District 83 will be taking a different approach to the start of the school year due to the wildfires in the region.
The majority of students enrolled in the North Okanagan-Shuswap District will have their first day of class on Wednesday, September 6, and it will only be a half day. Unlike other school districts that have their first classes Tuesday, teachers and staff at SD83 will be provided with an additional non-instructional day.
Meanwhile, plans have been put in place by the district to accommodate students evacuated due to the Bush Creek Fire who attend North Shuswap Elementary school currently located in the evacuated zone.
“Information has been shared with all families of North Shuswap Elementary students indicating that the district will relocate both staff and students from that school to Carlin Elementary/Middle School beginning Monday, September 11,” SD83 superintendent Donna Kriger said.
