FRASER VALLEY — Families across the province are getting more access to child care this season after a nearly $34 million investment from the B.C. government.

The latest round of ChildcareBC’s New Spaces funding is supporting the addition of over 900 new licensed child care spaces across 14 B.C. communities, including the Fraser Valley area.

“These spaces mean shorter waitlists, more access to affordable, high-quality child care and peace of mind for parents, knowing children are learning in safe, supportive environments,” said Lisa Beare, B.C.’s Minister of Education and Child Care.

In Langley, 72 spaces are set to open at Cookie Monster preschool, housing 10 infants, 14 toddlers and 48 school-age children.

An additional 110 much-needed spaces will open at Under the Tree Family Education and Support child care centre in Maple Ridge, following the closure of its waitlist due to high demand.

“This is about making life easier for parents today, while investing in stronger communities for generations to come.”

These centres will offer affordable child care fees by reducing monthly costs by up to $900 per child. Families needing more support may be eligible for the $10-a-day Affordable Child Care program.

ChildcareBC has helped fund more than 41,500 new spaces in the province since 2018.
