UPDATE: The Silver Creek boil water advisory has been rescinded as of October 3.

The original story follows:

HOPE — The District of Hope has issued a water boil advisory due to recent findings of E. coli in the local water supply.

Fraser Health detected the bacteria and total coliforms in a water sample collected Tuesday (Sep. 23) from the Silver Creek water system.

As a result, the District is asking residents to boil water for at least two to three minutes before drinking, brushing their teeth and preparing food, ice or infant formula.

“This bacterial presence poses a health risk, especially for vulnerable groups like infants, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems,” said the District.

Owners of public premises must post signs saying the water is not potable.

Hope Townsite, Lake of the Woods, West Kawkawa Lake, East Kawkawa Lake and private water systems are not affected.

The notice is set to remain in effect until lifted by Fraser Health.
