Maple Ridge crews wrap up emergency water main break repairs on Lougheed

MAPLE RIDGE — A section of Highway 7  has now reopened nearly a day after a burst water main spilled out onto the road in Maple Ridge.

The City of Maple Ridge issued an advisory at around 1:20 p.m. Saturday (Sep. 13), saying city crews were responding to the break at Lougheed Highway eastbound and 203 Street.

Video from the scene shows city water erupting and splashing from a collapsed section of the road prior to repair.

Fire Rescue and FortisBC were also on-site as a precaution due to an impacted natural gas line.

All eastbound lanes on the highway were closed at Maple Meadows Way about an hour later, and the Lougheed reopened by 7 a.m. Sunday (Sep. 14).

“Thank you to the crews who worked through the night and to everyone for your patience and cooperation during these emergency repairs,” wrote the City.

Water service has since been restored to affected properties, and FortisBC has also finished any necessary gas line repairs.

Drivers are asked to follow all signs and use alternate routes if needed as crews wrap up their work in the area.
