AbbyPD investigates overnight incidents involving airsoft guns being shot at pedestrians

UPDATE SATURDAY (AUG. 9): Police have now arrested the 17-year-old driver of the suspect vehicle featured in this story and are working with his parents.

As the suspect has been confirmed to be a young person, the previously posted surveillance video screen grabs have been removed.

ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford are investigating an alarming string of incidents that saw pellet and airsoft guns being randomly shot at pedestrians overnight.

Between 6:20 p.m. and 9:46 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 6), the Abbotsford Police Department received five separate reports of similar incidents, with one person receiving minor injury after being hit by pellets.

Victims described a white or light-coloured SUV approaching them, followed by a firearm coming up from inside the car or the sound of shots being fired at them. The vehicle was reportedly occupied by younger South Asian men.

  • 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Peardonville Road and Emerson Street
  • 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – Mt Lehman Road and Sandpiper Drive
  • 7:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. – 3100 Block of Mt Lehman Road
  • 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – George Ferguson Way & Gladwin Road
  • 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. – 32900 Block of South Fraser Way

All incidents are now under investigation by the Abbotsford Police General Investigative Section (GIS) to determine if they are connected.
