CHILLIWACK – One person was transported to hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire ignited at a residence in the 49900 block of Patterson Road Monday morning (June 22).

Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief of Operations Trevor Kirkpatrick says firefighters from 24 firefighters from three halls were dispatched to the Patterson Road home at approximately 9 a.m. Monday. When fire crews arrived, they observed smoke emanating from the top floor of a two-storey wood-frame residential structure. Firefighters conducted an offensive interior attack and were able to quickly control the fire, limiting its spread and preventing further damage to the home.

Kirkpatrick says working smoke alarms properly notified the occupants about the fire in the home. One occupant was transported to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation sustained while attempting to suppress the fire before firefighters arrived.

The residence sustained fire and smoke damage to a second-floor room, as well as smoke damage throughout the first floor.
