City of Mission notes substantial advance voting turnout ahead of Saturday’s municipal election

MISSION – The City of Mission says there’s been a substantial increase in advance voting numbers compared to similar voting dates four years ago when the last municipal election was conducted.

In a statement, the municipality says turnout at two advance voting opportunities, held October 7 and October 10, exceeded turnout from the corresponding advance voting days in 2022 by approximately 50 per cent and 100 per cent, respectively.

“The response from Mission voters during advance voting was fantastic to see,” said Taryn Hubbard, Chief Election Officer for the City of Mission. “Local government affects everyday lives and I encourage every eligible voter to take part on October 17 and help shape Mission’s future. We’ve got free local transit for the day and voting places throughout the community to support what’s sure to be an exciting day.”

The city is reminding residents that they may cast their ballot at any of eight designation locations, since voters are not assigned to a specific voting location. In other words, eligible voters are encouraged to vote at the location most convenient for them.

Here are the eight voting locations in Mission:

  • Albert McMahon Elementary School, 32865 Cherry Avenue
  • Cherry Hill Elementary School, 32557 Best Avenue
  • École Mission Central Elementary School, 7466 Welton Street
  • Hatzic Middle School, 34800 Dewdney Trunk Road
  • Mission Leisure Centre, 7650 Grand Street
  • Silverdale Elementary School, 29715 Donatelli Avenue
  • Stave Falls Elementary School, 30204 Brackley Avenue
  • West Heights Elementary School, 32065 Van Velzen Avenue

BC Transit service in Mission will free tomorrow. Find out more.

Eligible residents who are not already registered may register at the voting place on Saturday, October 17. Voters registering at the polls must bring two pieces of identification that show their identity and place of residence, with at least one piece bearing their signature.

Acceptable identification may include a B.C. Driver’s Licence, B.C. Services Card or CareCard, Canadian Citizenship Card, birth certificate, credit or debit card, Mission property tax notice, Social Insurance Card, Status Card, utility bill, or ICBC vehicle insurance documents.

Mission voters will elect:

  • Six City of Mission councillors
  • Four Mission Public School District No. 75 trustees

The office of mayor has been acclaimed by Jag Gill and will not appear on the ballot.
