SARDIS – Police in Chilliwack say impairment has been ruled out as a factor after the driver of a vehicle smashed into at least one sign at a roundabout in Sardis early Friday morning (June 19).

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener told Fraser Valley Today in an email that the single-vehicle collision was the likely result of fatigue.

“This single vehicle collision is not believed to be caused by impairment. The driver, and lone occupant, was cooperative with police and driver fatigue is suspected to be a factor. Fortunately, there were no injuries,” Cpl. Kiener said.

Fraser Valley Today asked whether the driver of the vehicle was ticketed but did not receive a direct answer.

The incident happened sometime prior to 3:13 a.m. Friday morning (June 19. That’s the exact time that a Sardis resident said she was driving southbound on Tyson Road approaching the Watson Road roundabout when police blocked the road southbound. She said a young man was seen standing near the scene of the accident on a sidewalk. She did not witness an ambulance in the area at 3:13 a.m.

At least one sign at the roundabout was damaged as a result of the collision.

By mid-morning on Friday, however, any and all signs at the roundabout impacted by the accident were at least somewhat repaired.
