Man arrested Sunday after threatening staff at Chilliwack store: RCMP

CHILLIWACK – A man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly threatened staff at an undisclosed store on Young Road and left with unpaid merchandise.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener told Fraser Valley Today in an email that a man entered a store on Young Road and threatened staff before fleeing with merchandise. A man was located shortly afterwards at a nearby park and arrested.

At least six Chilliwack RCMP vehicles were present near Salish Park outside the downtown Chilliwack library Sunday afternoon in response to the incident.

The suspect, a shirtless man in his 30s or 40s was seen stumbling around in Salish Park close to a nearby playground, and making loud moaning sounds while he struggled to keep his balance.
