ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say an impaired driver who tried to flee after getting pulled over during a traffic stop earlier this week was no match for a constable who just happened to be an experienced marathon runner.

On Sunday, August 3, just after 4 p.m., a member of the AbbyPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit was conducting speed enforcement in the 3000 block of Whatcom Road when the officer observed an SUV traveling at 101 km/hour in a posted 50 km/h zone. Police initiated a traffic stop, at which point the driver, a 29-year-old man, left his vehicle and tried to flee on foot. However, the driver didn’t stand a chance because the TEU officer is an experienced distance runner.

Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol exceeding the legal limit. He was also found to be under a Criminal Code driving ban at the time of his arrest.

Police provided pictures of the man’s SUV interior showing multiple empty cans of Colt 45 and Dos Locos.
