ABBOTSFORD — Over 600 Abbotsford residents woke up without power after a driver crashed into a pole Friday morning (Aug. 1).

Shortly after midnight, AbbyPD Patrol Officers clocked a Tesla being driven at dangerously high speeds from Mill Lake Road along Bourquin Crescent West. The car then turned a corner across South Fraser Way, where officers briefly lost sight of it.

The vehicle crashed into a power pole on George Ferguson Way near the Bourquin Crescent intersection only moments after. BC Hydro listed the major outage at 12:30 a.m.

“The 21-year-old driver was arrested at the scene for Dangerous Driving and is now facing a court date,” wrote the Abbotsford Police Department in a social media post. “Two passengers were detained but later released.”
