IIO concludes investigation into Langley RCMP collision with civilian vehicles

Jul 31, 2025 | 10:04 AM

LANGLEY — B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has concluded its investigation into an incident that included an arrest and a crash between a police vehicle and civilian vehicles this spring in Langley. The IIO has determined that none of the injuries resulting from the collision or arrest meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, and has closed the case.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on April 10, RCMP were following suspects in a robbery who were travelling in a Toyota pick-up truck. Near the intersection of 36 Avenue and 200 Street, the police vehicle was involved in a crash with a civilian vehicle. The police vehicle then struck another civilian vehicle. The sole occupants of both vehicles were taken to the hospital for treatment, along with two RCMP officers.

Meanwhile, the suspects in the Toyota pick-up were subsequently stopped. The four occupants suffered minor injuries while being arrested. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

A week later, the IIO learned the driver of the first civilian vehicle may have sustained injuries that meet the IIO’s threshold for serious harm.
