UPDATE: Wildfire near Hemlock Valley, NW of Harrison Hot Springs, being held

UPDATE 9:40 A.M. WEDNESDAY: The BC Wildfire Service now says the small fire near Hemlock Valley is being held, while the fire east of Mission is also being held. Both were small in nature and had ignited earlier this week.

Original story from 3:41 p.m. Tuesday afternoon:

HEMLOCK VALLEY — The B.C. Wildfire Service says a new wildfire has been identified near Hemlock Valley.

The small wildfire, estimated at less than a hectare in size, was located earlier today, Tuesday (July 22).

The location has been designated as Weaver Lake.

The cause is under investigation.

There is no immediate information on the amount of firefighters that will be assigned to the fire.

It’s the second wildfire in 24 hours that has broken out north of the Fraser River. A small wildfire ignited near Dewdney Mountain west of Deroche, around the time of thunderstorm activity in Chilliwack, Abbotsford and the rest of the Fraser Valley on Monday night.
