VICTORIA — Despite outshooting their opposition badly, the Chilliwack Chiefs came up short on the scoresheet, falling 4 – 2 to the Victoria Grizzlies Saturday (Jan. 6) in Victoria.

Matt Argentina opened the scoring midway through the first period for the Chiefs, staking Chilliwack to its only lead of the night.

But a pair of second period powerplay goals was the difference. Luc Pelletier and Anthony Carone scored to put the Grizzlies out in front. Reegan Hiscock scored in the third to make it 3 – 1.

That was enough for Victoria netminder Oliver Auyeung-Ashton. He stopped 42 of the 44 shots to lead the Grizzlies to the win. The Grizzlies 31 shots at the Austin McNicholas in the Chilliwack net.

Nico Grabas scored for the Chiefs with one second remaining to record his seventh goal of the season after the Grizzlies had increased their lead with an empty net goal.

Victoria scored on two of its three powerplay chances while the Chiefs’ powerplay never had any opportunities.

Chilliwack returns home for games with Prince George and Surrey next weekend.
