ABBOTSFORD — It was a tragic Friday (Dec. 22) night on Abbotsford streets as two separate crashes resulted in the death of one person and life-threatening injuries to another.

In a news release, Abbotsford Police say they were called out at 5:13 p.m. to a collision that involved a pedestrian in the 30000 block of the Marshall Road Extension.

A 40-year-old male was struck. Despite the efforts of first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

Just six minutes earlier at 5:07 p.m., officers had been called to a collision in the area of Victoria Street and Old Yale Road. A vehicle had struck a 77-year-old woman.

Police describe the woman’s injuries as serious and life-threatening. She was taken to hospital and was listed in critical condition Friday night.

In both cases, the drivers of the vehicles involved remained at the scene and are cooperating with the police. AbbyPD says impairment is not believed to be a factor in either tragic collision.

Road closures are in place around the accident scenes to allow investigators to collect evidence. The AbbyPD is being assisted by the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of either event is asked to contact investigators by calling the Abbotsford Police department at 604-859-5225.
